Things to look out for when buying a small sailboat?

I am looking to buy a small used sailboat, something like a Laser or a Sunfish. I know how to sail, but I know almost nothing about caring for the boats and I'm worried I'll buy a boat with issues. What are some things I should look out for, such as soft spots on the hull, sticky pulleys, and such,? I'd appreciate any help, books, or websites to read.
