The normal course of action would be for your landlord to claim for the damage under his building insurance policy. If his insurers believe that you are legal liable in respect of the damage they may try and recover the cost of the repairs under the liability section of your contents policy. Likewise if the landlord try's to claim the excess from you your contents insurers may deal with the claim.
