Is it so wrong to have a political opinion that doesn't reflect the opinion of the majority?
Being Australian we have been inundated with the recent election in America concerning McCain and Obama. I have watched a large number of celebrities jump up and tell us who they are voting for with the vast majority supporting Obama. On occasion a so called celebrity has voiced their support for McCain and has been criticised for this view. An example is Elizabeth from "The View". After Obamas win she was left to have to publicly say her choice in party was wrong. Her choice wasn't wrong if that is what she believed. It seems that when we take the political stance of the minority we are better off not verbalising our thoughts as they will be rejected and be told we have no idea what we are talking about. The Dixie Chicks a few years ago spoke their political opinion and were condemned to the point of death threats. Whether they were right or wrong is not for me to say but they should feel safe in their own country to speak their beliefs without fear of physical danger. People in this world have beliefs that are scary and frightening but without all the different thoughts and ideas we can't learn who we are and grow as a world. One day someones opinion may have just a slight bit of profound truth to it no matter how small, that it may sway anothers thoughts towards a safer and better world. So whether you like what someone says or not just listen to it, digest what they said and respect the fact they believe in something enough to share their thoughts with you. What some say is complete rubbish but without the sharing of ideas we don't grow intellectually.
