Struggling with Avon ...?

I have a territory (of about 110 houses) and deliver the brochures and even made up little newsletters, but so far I have had one order (about $15 worth) and one request for another brochure. I don't go up to the doors, just drop the brochures in the letterboxes, and don't go back to collect them at all. How do other people work this? I understand it's a lot different in the US and UK so would be interested to hear other people's opinions from NZ :)
