Nebraska Statute on filing bad checks for prosecution?

I have a buisness and I'm having problems filing bad checks because they say since it is for the rental of equipment I am not able to in the state of Nebraska. I am just wondering about the legality behind this and how I can go about getting my money. Will I only be able to file this in small claims court? Some of these checks are for thousands of dollars.
