Does a bouncer have the right to put a hand on me?

you hear and see a lot of bouncers working people over or twisting their arm and throwing people outside. Do they have aright even to touch you? Does everybody just take abuse from bouncers because they accept that they were in the wrong? What is the legal standpoint on what a bouncer can technically do to patrons
